Today's ride started around 10am: a very cold but sunny morning and within the first mile I had already started looking forward to lunch and the warm bath I would have when I returned back home a few hours later. Twenty minutes on I was ploughing uphill into a slight headwind and the thought "why am I doing this again?" entered my head. I brushed those thoughts aside and continued on, albeit at a much slower than normal pace. When I got as far as Goostry and made the turn back for home, I started getting some assistance from the headwind that had slowed me earlier - I was flying along, feeling fantastic.
I mulled over everything going on in my life at the moment, as I always do when I'm out on my bike, and started to feel a sense of calm descending.
I noticed that the farmers are up to something again - the lanes are quite muddy and they seem to be busy in the fields. I wonder what they're doing now?
I cycled through Tatton Park - it was fairly quiet so I practised a bit of no-handed riding while the deer looked on - and on my way out down the drive lined with huge trees, I inhaled deeply, enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and the freedom that comes from moving along, powered by your own steam and in my head I answered my own question from earlier in the ride: "this is why I do it".
A mile on a almost lost my right arm to a CANNON HYGIENE lorry, travelling at ridiculous speed and far too close to me "FOR F**K's SAKE!!!!!" came the cry from me as I tried to get the reg but he was already too far away for me to catch it. Those incidents just spoil it all don't they?
6 miles further on and I was home again, running a bath, eating a steaming bowl of pasta (weighed out!) and feeling all was well with the world again.
On the Etape front, I really need to get the medical form from Cyclomundo and get it signed! Accommodation is half paid for. Now, I need to start looking for some flights (I don't think we can drive again).

Hi Karen
I have just seen your posting, I am also going through Cyclemundo and I had to chase them for the entry form. They said that they had just received them and scanned and emailed it to me just before Christmas. They also said they needed it back at the latest by the end of January. It may therefore be worth contacting them to get the form emailed to you.
On the bike front you are right my best bike is a Trek however at this time of year it does not come out and I ride a winter bike with mudguards etc.
Nice to see you're out on the roads again, taking your life into your hands!
Cheshire Cat again this year?
Hi guys - thanks for the headsup Rich. I'm in the doctors on Park Road and have to pay to get an examination done. At first, they said they thought it would take months to get the form signed. I go on Monday so I hope he says I'm ok.
Clive, yes, I'm doing the cheshire cat and looking forward to the new route. You doing it?
Wouldn't miss it for the world.
Particularly looking forward to the new route. Long route only being considered. Anything shorter would be wussing out
