Cycling Plus Testing day

Last Friday I traveled down to Bath for the second testing day with Cycling Plus magazine. It was a fantastic day - great to meet up with all the team & Joe, our coach. The previous test data was flawed due to the dodgy ticker so I was really keen to find out what would happen now that all is fixed. We started at 100w and increased 20w each passing minute until we couldn't go on anymore. It was hard work and I sounded like I was in labour at some points. I was really pleased with the results - Since March, I increased my power from 260W to 300W - that's the average I can keep up for 1 minute. We also saw a nice steady HR graph - HR increasing steadily with increasing power. My max HR was 169 - normal at last!

In the afternoon we whizzed up and down a foggy country lane for a few hours while Bob the photographer snapped away - a great laugh - and then on a long rambling drive in convoy to a country pub for a huge feast. We had to do the test fasted so we were absolutely ravenous by that stage.

Finally, a 2 hour drive back to Timperley, Pete Tong blasting on the radio and me reliving my yoof, raving away like I used to on a Friday night when I did actually have a social life.

Roller overload

God it's been cold hasn't it? I dropped the kids at school the other day and it was minus 4 - MINUS blimmin 4!!! So, seeing as I fell off on ice on the 23rd of December last year (for some reason the date really stuck in my head) I have not risked a repeat and have been staying in on my rollers. Now, I love my rollers but after a week of rollering, I'm getting really keen to get on the road again. I did an hour today and towards the end, my front bum (!) was on FIRE!!!!! Fingers crossed that we get a bit of warmth and I can get a couple of hours in on Friday and at the weekend.

Sniffles seem to be getting a little better. I'm taking Vitamin C, Echinacea, garlic-loading and I've just bought myself some CherryActive, which British Cycling use apparently. I stink but I think I'm getting healthier :-)
