Well, there's no backing out now - my entry only place has been paid for.
I have managed to find some accommodation as well. We'll be hiring a studio flat on a campsite in Montelimar, just a few kms from the start. I have no idea what it will be like, all I am promised is a bed and a bathroom, but that is fine for us as I hope that we'll spend most of our time cycling, getting sorted for the day or walking about Montelimar. We'll be using the money we save on our entry to take the whole family away to Provence earlier in the year to get a little bit of Ventoux practice in. The whole area looks absolutely beautiful and the excitement is definitely starting to build. I'm beginning the whole process of going to bed, closing my eyes and imagining myself on the start line again. My visualisation extends to actually cycling in the race as well (I never got that far last time - in thought or deed).
What I really need to crack now is the weight - I am just too damn heavy for that mountain!

Wow how exciting!
Will you be doing some UK sportives as training?
It's not a great time to try and loose weight in the winter, try not to worry about it till it warms up a bit.
Nice to see you are having another go. I followed your blog for the 2008 Etape which I had entered myself. Like you, I had a terrible blow and couldn't do the ride - I broke my wrist at a sportive in Oxfordshire two weeks before the Etape. I was gutted. But hey, I've got my 2009 entry booked too - onwards (and hopefully) upwards to the top of Ventoux. Good luck with the training. Chapeau!!!
Hi Trio - yes I'm hoping to do lots of sportives. I really need to get my plan together for the year but I'm hoping to do the Cheshire Cat, Lakeland Loop, Etape Caledonia, polka dot challenge and possibly more!
Hi Jez,
What a shame about your wrist. I completely understand that it must have been gutting - probably even more so than for me as it was so close to the event. Glad to hear that you're going for 2009. Good luck to you too & hope to hear from you again over the coming months
